CMKicking off Evolution Emerging 2015 at The Cluny on Saturday night are indie rockers Coquin Migale and we seriously can’t wait for their performance. The four-piece are on the cusp of national success following the release of their tremendous single ‘Gold’ so we caught up with frontman Alexander Soper to find out what they’ve been up to recently…

1. Firstly, for those who are unfamiliar with your work, how would you describe your sound?

Fresh, vibey, enticing, energetic, GOD-like, reem, not bad, legit, exciting, desirable, considered, well deece, pleasant, sloppy, fun…alternative indie pop rock, alt-rock. We were given infectious once which I’m a solid fan of.

2. We featured you on The Tipping Point a while back, what have you been up to since?

Mostly, laughing our heads off thanks to you cuties. We achieved a couple of plays on BBC Radio 1. We have been gigging regularly darn sarff recently in Camden, Hoxton, Shoreditch and throwing our monthly shows at the Head of Steam, which are going down a real treat with our beautiful attendees and ourselves.

3. In terms of your career so far, how long have you been writing and performing as an artist?

We have been writing since the summer of 2013 and our gigging career kicked off on the 20th November at Central Bar, Gateshead.

4. Would you say you prefer recording in the studio or playing live?

Ah, well. This one’s a nightmare like. Personally, I’d say it’s a solid 50/50. I reckon the lads would agree with this. Playing live is an absolute buzz, the kind of buzz you can’t get anywhere else. However, hiding away in the studio recording a new floor-filling banger for your listeners is class. The whole anticipation process is mint.

5. What is the most difficult challenge for you in the music industry?

M O N E Y. M O N E Y. M O N E Y. M O N E Y. M O N E Y. M O N E Y.

6. What is your biggest musical achievement to date?

Achieving a Radio 1 play and selling out our ‘Gold’ single launch at The Head Of Steam was a biggy for us, we were right happy with that. Also, just being a band on the scene that has received some solid recognition from various big dogs is an absolute treat. Considering we have only been knocking about on the scene for a short space of time, it’s WAXXA to have people know our jamz, attend our gigs & appreciate what it is we’re doing.

7. When can we catch you playing live next?

You can catch us opening this years EVOLUTION EMERGING FESTIVAL at The Cluny. We frolic at 7.30pm.

8. Will you be appearing on the festival circuit this summer?

Maybe, yes. No, you’ll have to wait and see.

9. Do you have any new material due for release soon?

We are currently booking studio time for the very near future.

10. Do you have any industry related advice for emerging artists?

GRAFT. Stick at it; this isn’t going to happen overnight. If it does, drop us a message & tell us how it did please pal.

11. What’s the best way for people to get in contact with you/keep up to date with the latest goings on?

For bookings or general enquires just drop us an email at:

For social media swag;

12. What is your one major ambition for your career in music?

A sturdy publishing deal would be nice. Throw us a couple of beans so we can get paid for this, which we love doing by the way, honestly. We’re in this for good, we want as many people to hear and enjoy our music as possible. I’d personally love to improve someone’s day with one of our tunes. If someone was to wake feeling pretty rubbish about his/her day, being able to improve their day (if only a little) and forget for a moment just how unfortunate and unpredictable a life can be, would be a satisfying FEEL for myself. To write good solid, recognised tunes and make a slight difference to people’s feelings. I mean, ROCK’N’ROLL man. You got any tabs?

Thanks for that, it was cute.
