Next up in our interview section is Manchester-based Australian outfit FAIRCHILD whose latest track ‘Breathless’ we tipped on the site earlier this year. With a jam-packed second half of 2016 ahead of them, we spoke to the band to find out what they’ve got lined up for us…

1.Firstly, for those who are unfamiliar with your work, how would you describe your sound?

Good wholesome indie rock (only 33% pop, we promise).

2.We featured you on The Tipping Point a while back, what have you been up to since?

We’ve been doing what all self respecting musicians do, playing a lot of gigs, for little money, but we’ve been having a helluva time doing it. We also released another single ‘Neighbourhoods’, which you can find on Soundcloud.

3.In terms of your career so far, how long have you been writing and performing as an artist?

We’re in our 5th year with the current line up.

4.Would you say you prefer recording in the studio or playing live?

Survey says live.

5.What is the most difficult challenge for you in the music industry? How many pages is this write up?

I don’t think there’s enough space, building a network from scratch is definitely a toughie.

6.What is your biggest musical achievement to date?

Touring in Asia and Canada/US. We hit #131 on the Thailand iTunes charts so we’ve got that going for us.

7.When can we catch you playing live next?

Next up is Tramlines Festival, Sheffield, 22nd July.

8.Will you be appearing on the festival circuit this summer?

Yes, starting with Tramlines. Can’t say too much just yet as some haven’t been announced. We’re very secret squirrel around these parts.

9.Do you have any new material due for release soon?

Lot’s coming up. Again secret squirrel. You’ll know soon enough.

10.Do you have any industry related advice for emerging artists?

Go to gigs, meet everyone, be genuine (aka don’t act like a twat). The more people you know (and the more they like you) the more opportunities you’ll get.

11.What’s the best way for people to get in contact with you/keep up to date with the latest goings on?

We’re very much on the line. all of our handles are @wearefairchild or www.wearefairchild.com

12.What is your one major ambition for your career in music?

For our music to pay for itself, let’s just start with that. Ultimately we want to be close enough to Kanye to smell him…. Too much? Maybe a Fairchild reality show.
