Bristol  trio Elder Island released their self-titled debut EP this Summer through Four Thieves and Rough Trade Records, and our pick of the bunch is second single ‘The Big Unknown’.This particular track employs the same kind of quiet Funk as Jungle, but instead it’s used as the setting for the effortless cool of Katy Sargent‘s lead vocal.

Such a variety of rhythms and instrumentation make this track stand out a mile – a xylophone dances nonchalantly along funky basslines and muted guitars.  There are so many glimmers of different genres on display here that you could pretty much call ‘The Big Unknown’ what you will, but you’re probably better off just enjoying it for what it is – brilliantly written, well-restrained, down-tempo Pop.
