Farao is the alias of the Norwegian-born (but London based) Kari Jahnsen. As yet, she’s a singer-songwriter still shrouded in mystery and even the vast archives of the internet can only offer few clues.

‘Forces’ is full of premise; it’s a teaser trailer for things to come.  Finger-picky guitar, even drums and despondent lyrics speak of bitter, winter landscapes. There’s something satisfying about this track’s unashamed concession to wallowing in unhappiness and Jahnsen’s caramel vocal has that familiar palliating quality so often attributed to Lucy Rose and Daughter − it soothes like musical calpol.

Farao is set to record her debut EP in Reykjavik with Mike Lindsay of the experimental folk band Tunng so look out for a release in April of this year. To tide you over until then, ‘Forces’ is available to download free from her website.
